Operation Healing teamed up again with Heroes on the Water to feed the Carry the Load team as they passed through Portland on the second day of the West Coast Route of the 2024 National Relay. Teams start from five different points around the country, covering 20,000 miles through the month of May, to pay respects and honor our nation’s heroes. They walk, bike, and even tube along the route to raise awareness and provide active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices made by our military, veterans, first responders, and their families..
We helped to serve a hearty meal after the team arrived from an emotional flag ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery. The rain held long enough for the feast, and began to sprinkle just as these folks set off again. A number of gold star families and patriots joined the next leg of their route, helping to raise both money and awareness for fallen heroes, while generating support for non-profits. The 2024 trek is off to a good start, bringing out larger groups to honor and take part in their mission of remembrance and raising charitable contributions.
Rallies are held at national cemeteries and other locations along the route, with marchers converging in Dallas TX for a 2-day final Memorial Day weekend event. It is one of our nation’s best and biggest celebrations honoring the sacrifices of fallen service members and their families. Ref: Memorial May Events - Relay, Marches & Rallies - Carry The Load
